Life-centred design requires an expansion of our scope of understanding and ethical considerations for the longer-term health of society, the economy, and not just people but our entire living planet.
Zooming in to discover the important details
Acknowledge the complexity of a living body which consists of multiple inter-connected and inter-dependant regulatory and functional systems.
Zooming out to see the big picture
Taking an intellectual and philosophical position that interprets a complex system as the sum of its parts (reductionism) neglects the nuances and effects of inter-connection and inter-dependency. Much like Aristotle, our researchers share a far more holistic view that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”.
Looking far ahead to consider consequences
We are made up from, and are part, of, complex systems with multifaceted impact and unpredictable scenarios for possible futures. A life-centred approach adopts holistic perspectives to understand dynamic relationships across interdependent technological and living systems.
